“To hand a pumpkin” is a Ukrainian traditional way to reject a matchmaking proposal. Representatives of a groom can advertise their client as much as they wish in front of a desired bride, but she may just hand them a pumpkin to refuse without explanation. Hence this expression also means “to get nothing for one’s pain”.

Say, you can’t stand doing repairs. Put few flowers where the house struggles, put some pictures on top of the biggest object, et voila! You ‘ve just done a maintenance.

Допустим невмоготу вам делать ремонт. Ставите пару цветочков с месте, где недвижимость страдает, самый крупный объект идейно штрихуете - voilà! Косметический ремонт готов.
