The House With Chimeras. Mansion of Vladislav Gorodetsky. Ode to the concrete. A strange building in the city centre initially had to be the living house for the author himself, and also for renting, between the wars there were several families sharing, then it became the main hospital for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, and now … i really don’t know. Besides his passion for the architecture, Mr. Gorodetsky used to be a seasoned hunter. Inside the house there were numerous hunting trophies at times. The creatures outside the facade and on the roof pictured Gorodetsky himself, then they were cast out of concrete in the famous workshop of sculptor Sal. In 2002 this renowned mansion turned its centennial.

Дом с химерами. Особняк Владислава Городецкого. Ода бетону. Диковинное здание в центре изначально задумывалось как жильё для самого автора и доходный дом (сдавать в смысле), после революции и до войны в нём была коммуналка, потом он стал больницей ЦК КПУ, сейчас… не знаю. Кроме страсти к архитектуре, пан Городецкий был заядлый охотник. Внутри дом украшали в свое время многочисленные охотничьи трофеи. Чудовищ, облепивших фасад и крышу, нарисовал сам Городецкий, затем их отлили из бетона в известной мастерской скульпторов Саля.  В 2002 году знаменитый дом отметил свое столетие.

Pirogovo / Пирогово

Yes, it is really in Kiev. Ok, not exactly. “Pirigovo” the name of park-museum, architectural – landscape complex under open sky in suburb. Here you can find all historical- ethnographical areas of Ukraine. Museum was opened in 1976 and it’s located on the field of 150 hectare.

VICTORY DAY/День победы!

Today thousands of compatriots honored the memory of perished soldiers during the World War II laying the flowers on common graves. But the most of people came to the Park of Glory where is situated the eternal fire. Unfortunately there are not as many veterans as in all previous years. 64 years have been passed since the Victory of soviet army on fascist conquerors. But we still remember that outstanding event in our History.

Сегодня тысячи соотечественников почтили память погибших cолдат во времена  Великой Отечественной Войны возложением цветов на братские могилы. К сожалению, все меньше ветеранов можно увидеть  сегодня  – 64 года прошло с момента победы советской армии над фашистскими захватчиками. Но  мы помним этот знаменательный день в нашей истории.
С Днем Победы!

Barbie has celebrated her 50th anniversary. How old are these toy animals I really don’t know. I found them atop of fireplace in Gapchinksa gallery (I like that childish maturity in her paintings).
Recently a small girl asked a toy-hare for a present. Walking in the toy-shop I got stunned. There even was a toy-muskrat! Even Micky Mouse in a nightgown! Even a toy-girl dressed up (!) as a bear! There was only one toy-hare thou. It is difficult to surprise kids these days.

Барби отметила свой 50-летний юбилей. Сколько этим игрушкам-зверюшкам затрудняюсь ответить. Найденыши греются на камине у галерее Гапчинской (очень люблю ее живопись – такая себе детская взрослость).
Недавно маленькая девочка попросила в качестве подарка зайку.  В магазине игрушек я онемела. Там был даже плюшевый выхухоль! Даже Микки Маус в ночной сорочке! Даже кукла-девочка переодетая (!) в мишку! Заяц был в одном экземпляре.  Деток нынче еще поди удиви.

Junkmen are amazing people. They have to store all this somewhere. I know of certain magic places like balconies, dachas, cottages in villages… But questions of logistics are simply vulgar in their case. These people are diligent merchants, sagacious investors in antique. In the time of crisis they are saved by samovars. Doubts? Ask the price
Старьевщики удивительные люди. Это ж нужно было где-то все хранить. Знаю, есть волшебные места типа балкона, гаража, дачи, бабушкиного дома в селе… Но вопросы складирования просто вульгарны в данном случае. Эти люди рачительные негоцианты, прозорливые инвесторы в антиквариат.  В кризис спасают самовары. Сомневаетесь? Поинтересуйтесь ценой
